Directions: Stovetop Bring water and salt to a boil. Slowly stir in Scottish Oatmeal, reduce heat to medium-low and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let stand for 2 minutes. Servings Oats Water Salt 1 Serving 1/4 cup 3/4 cup pinch 2 Servings 1/2 cup 1½ cups pinch 3 Servings 3/4 cup 2¼ cups 1/4 tsp 4 Servings 1 cup 3 cups 1/4 tsp Microwave Combine 1/4 cup Scottish Oatmeal, 3/4 cup water and a pinch of salt. Stir well. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes. Makes 1 serving. Store in a cool, dry place. Keeps best refrigerated or frozen after opening. |

Many years ago, I traveled to the border country of Scotland to learn the secrets of traditional Scottish Oatmeal. I found my way tot he legendary Preston Mill, on the banks of River Tyne, where they have been milling oats since the sixteenth century. For days I stayed at this historic water-powdered mill, studying everything from their special method for toasting oats to t he ancient millstones. I took this knowledge home with me to Bob's Red Mill's and I am proud to say we have since perfected the art of stone grinding oats to make classic Scottish Oatmeal. I top mine with just a little butter and brown sugar, and it is absolute perfection.
