- Green tea extract, specifically its catechin and EGCG content, is very popular these days. It boosts energy and fat burning when consumed with caffeine because it inhibits an enzyme that breaks down adrenaline hormones. [3]
Yohimbine HCL
Razberi-K Raspberry Ketones
[4-(4-hydroxyphenyl) butan-2-one]
Green Coffee Bean Extract: (Coffea Robusta) (standardized to 45% chlorogenic acids, 10% 5-caffeoylquinic acid)
Hordenine HCL
Vinpocetine (Vinca minor, Periwinkle Extract) (whole plant)
2013 has been the year of the reformulation, and keeping with that theme Scivation is putting out a brand new formulation of their fat burner Dialene. Scivation has always been known primarily for their wildly popular amino acid product Xtend, but they’re looking to change that, and deliver a high-profile, fat burning product to the market with Dialene. Is this release of Dialene an effective product? Could it be the version to strike gold? Lets find out.
Ingredients
As a PricePlow reader, you know to be skeptical of wild claims from weight loss product manufactuerers.
So many companies make insane claims based on sketchy studies
using animal models. And they can get away with it, too. The average person doesn’t have the time or understanding of the science to read the studies, check references, and figure out if a company is being honest. More often than not, the only weight missing isn’t around your midsection, it’s from your wallet. We’ve done a careful analysis of each ingredient in Dialene to see if the product lives up to the hype.
First off, we have some individually labelled and dosed ingredients:
B-Vitamins
(25mg B5, 50mg B6, 100mcg B12) While essential to a number of bodily processes, including energy metabolism and lipid synthesis, there is not really a direct link between B-vitamin supplementation and weight loss or body processes directly associated with weight loss. But since it’s cheap and many people do not get their RDA of vitmain B, they make a decent inclusion in any diet aid.
Chromax™ Chromium Picolinate - 1000mcg
Chromax is the trademarked chromium supplement by ingredient suppliers Nutrition 21, and they’ve got plenty of reason to celebrate as they’ve overcome safety concerns and recently obtained coveted GRAS (generally recognized as safe) approval from the FDA for supplementation at levels up to 2000mcg daily. After a quick scan of the fat burner market, it looks like Scivation is the first company to capitalize on this regulatory change and release a product labelled as containing the maximum dose of chromium. It is important to understand exactly what chromium does.
Chromium on its own does not independently increase fat loss. What chromium is effective at, is reducing appetite.
[1, 2] Chromium, at this dose, will significantly reduce cravings and increase satiety.
The rest of the product is composed of two blends, first a ‘LiquiPhenol’ Blend, 693mg of:
Green Tea Extract
(Camelia sinensis) (leaves) [standardized to 60% EGCG]
Caffeine
What fat burner would be complete without caffeine? The most widely consumed and studied stimulant in the world, caffeine has proven effects on fat mobilization and energy. A great research review that summarizes all of the studies done on caffeine was published by the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. [4]
The alpha-2-adrenoceptor binds stimulant hormones, promotes fat storage and lowers energy levels. Yohimbine acts as an antagonist of this receptor, causing the opposite effects: increased fat loss and increased energy.
Finally, there is a G6 Fat Incinerating Matrix, 355mg of:
We’re not fans of raspberry ketones at PricePlow. You can see our extensive ingredient review here. Basically, at ridiculously high doses for supplementation purposes (we’re talking in the tens of GRAMS here) it might possess some fat burning properties, but at the doses used in fat burners (dozens to several hundreds of milligrams) you’re looking at no effect whatsoever.
GCBE has been taking the fat burning market by storm in the past couple of years after some promising research based on its chlorogenic acid content. A number of human trials have been conducted, and a meta-analysis [5] concluded that there is minor dose-dependant fat loss associated with GCBE consumption. Chlorogenic acid has been shown in studies to reduce carbohydrate uptake [6] as well as reduce insulin and glucose responses to feeding. [7] Chlorogenic acid has a number of other beneficial neuroprotective and antioxidant effects as well.
Hordenine is a stimulant compound found in many plants that contain other adrenergic amines, like synephrine, or tyramine, such as citrus aurantium or acacia. There is no human data on oral consumption of this stimulant, but its action is likely similar to that of other adrenergic amines.
Vinpocetine increases vasodilation and blood flow to the brain, aiding in the transport of fatty acids and providing some stimulatory effects and mental enhancement. [8]
Overall, there are a number of well-researched ingredients in the product (chromium, GCBE, caffeine) and some not-so-well researched ingredients (hordenine, raspberry ketones). There is not much direct fat-burning action potential in the product, however it should serve as a stellar appetite suppressant due to the very high dose of chromium, as well as the chlorogenic acid content. The product is certainly a big improvement over the old Dialene formula, and should be an effective weight-loss aid. It is less stimulant-heavy than competing products, so you might not feel the effects as much.
Side Effects
When taken as directed, most people shouldn’t experience any side effects. This is an all-natural formula meant to increase energy without negative side effects.
However, as with all stimulants, you might experience restlessness or jitters if you take more than your body can handle. For this reason, you should always follow label recommendations and start at just one capsule daily before gradually upping your dose.
Additionally, you should talk to your doctor before you start taking this product. Your physician will explain if you have a pre-existing condition, such as a heart problem, that might preclude you from taking stimulant products.
Due to the chromium and vitamin B6 included at doses such that two servings per day puts your intake precisely at the FDAs tolerable upper limit for daily consumption, you should avoid taking more than two servings per day.
Where to Buy
Always buy your supplements online. You can find a better selection at PricePlow than any brick and mortar store can offer. Dialene isn’t out yet, but as soon as it is, we’ll update our price comparison on this page so you can decide where to get the best deal
