Transparent Labs NAC + Glycine is a pro-longevity antioxidant support formula featuring three evidence-based ingredients in clinically effective doses: 600 mg N-acetylcysteine (NAC), 1,000 mg L-glycine, and 200 mg Emothion S-acetyl-glutathione per serving. These nutrients work synergistically to quench oxidative stress, boost glutathione levels, promote brain health, enhance mitochondrial function, and more.
"GlyNAC" supplementation is being more rigorously investigated in aging humans (with promising results to date). We've taken this combination of amino acids and added highly bioavailable glutathione as Emothion S-acetyl-glutathione to further combat elevated oxidative stress and encourage healthy aging on a cellular level.
Key Features
Clinically Shown to Increase Glutathione Levels and Reduce Oxidative Stress: Combination therapy with glycine and NAC has been tested in multiple clinical trials, and the findings consistently demonstrate its efficacy for increasing glutathione levels and lowering oxidative stress. In turn, this nutrient tandem promotes healthy aging at the cellular level.
Supports Longevity, Mitochondrial Function, Brain Health, Immunity, and More: This GlyNAC supplement, with a trio of glutathione-boosting ingredients, can provide a wide range of health benefits for active individuals and older adults.
Provides Highly Bioavailable Glutathione (as Emothion): Since glutathione is a tripeptide (made up of three amino acids bonded together), proteolytic enzymes in the intestines can cleave the peptide bonds before glutathione gets absorbed into the blood circulation. Emothion is an acetylated form of glutathione that overcomes the bioavailability challenges of standard glutathione, translating to greater absorption and efficacy.
Third-Party Tested for Purity and Potency: Our commitment to full product transparency and quality assurance means each batch of Transparent Labs NAC + Glycine capsules undergoes third-party testing to ensure label claims for NAC, glycine, and Emothion are met.
Active Ingredients and Benefits

L-Glycine | 1,000 mg
L-glycine is a non-essential amino acid with numerous roles in the human body, especially regarding the nervous system and brain health/cognitive function [1]. Taking L-glycine is important when supplementing with NAC, as endogenous glutathione production requires two biochemical steps—in the first step, cysteine (provided by NAC) is added to glutamic acid to form the intermediate glutamylcysteine. In the second step, glycine is added to glutamylcysteine to form glutathione [2]. This forms the biochemical basis for what is commonly known as a "GlyNAC" supplement (short for Glycine + N-acetylcysteine).
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) | 600 mg
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), often called acetylcysteine, is a modified form of the nonessential amino acid L-cysteine with strong antioxidant and mucolytic ("mucus-ridding") properties. NAC is an orally bioavailable precursor for glutathione synthesis in the body, conferring additional protection against oxidative stress.
The association between oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and glutathione deficiency is well-established [3]. As we age and glutathione production declines, the body becomes less resilient to chronic oxidative stress, leading to impaired mitochondrial function, elevated inflammation, and other aging hallmarks [4].
Supplementing GlyNAC helps combat the oxidative stress caused by aging and glutathione deficiency, thereby providing several health benefits [5]. In fact, a recent randomized clinical trial in older adults found that GlyNAC supplementation for 24 weeks significantly increased glutathione concentrations, lowered insulin resistance, enhanced body composition, improved age-associated cognitive decline, bolstered exercise capacity, and promoted endothelial function [6].
Moreover, GlyNAC supplementation is gaining traction for supporting brain health. Preliminary findings in aged mice and aging humans show a significant attenuation of oxidative stress and cognitive decline associated with glutathione deficiency after treatment with NAC and glycine [7, 8]. While a naturally occurring cognitive decline is expected as we age, the evidence suggests that GlyNAC supplementation can improve brain health and cognitive abilities.
Emothion S-Acetyl-Glutathione | 200 mg
Emothion is an acetylated form of glutathione that overcomes the bioavailability challenges of standard glutathione, translating to greater absorption and efficacy. Often considered the "master" intracellular antioxidant, glutathione is a tripeptide comprised of the amino acids glutamate, glycine, and cysteine. This tripeptide is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant in humans. Numerous studies show that glutathione, particularly in its reduced form, mitigates oxidative stress in virtually every body system [9].
However, glutathione production declines as we age, leaving cells with less capacity to fight oxidative stress. Elevated oxidative stress arising from glutathione deficiency harbors multiple aging hallmarks (e.g. cognitive impairment and mitochondrial dysfunction), while restoring glutathione levels does the opposite, supporting cellular health and lessening the risk of age-related conditions [10].
Moreover, recent findings suggest that glutathione is an important regulator of nitric oxide levels in endothelial tissue (the thin layer of cells that lines the inside of your blood vessels and heart) [11]. Given that glutathione improves nitric oxide bioavailability, may prove useful for overcoming the endothelial dysfunction commonly seen in older adults.
How To Use
As a dietary supplement, consume three (3) capsules daily, preferably before or after a meal.
Optimal Consumption Times
Timing is not important with this particular formula, but some people may find it best to take their daily serving in the evening as L-glycine has been shown to promote sleep quality.
FAQs
What Are the Benefits of Taking GlyNAC Supplements?
GlyNAC—a combination of glycine and N-acetylcysteine (NAC)—is known for its potent antioxidant properties. It helps combat oxidative stress, supports detoxification processes in the liver, and may improve brain health and mitochondrial function by promoting glutathione synthesis, the body's master antioxidant.
How Does GlyNAC Work?
By replenishing glutathione, GlyNAC helps protect cells from oxidative damage and supports the body’s natural detoxification pathways.
Are There Any Side Effects of GlyNAC Supplementation?
GlyNAC is generally considered safe and is well tolerated in clinical trials. Potential side effects include mild gastrointestinal discomfort, especially when taken in large doses. As with any supplement, it’s best to consult a healthcare provider before starting GlyNAC, particularly for those with existing health conditions or those taking other medications.
Can GlyNAC Improve Cognitive Function and Brain Health?
Emerging research suggests that GlyNAC may improve cognitive function and brain health by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in the brain. This can potentially slow cognitive decline and improve mental clarity, particularly in aging populations.
How Does NAC Support Immune Health?
NAC supports immune health primarily through its role in maintaining optimal glutathione levels. This helps enhance the immune system’s response to pathogens and reduces oxidative stress, which is crucial during infections and inflammation.
What Role Does Glycine Play in Sleep and Mental Health?
Glycine has a calming effect on the brain and can improve sleep quality by lowering core body temperature and modulating neurotransmitters involved in sleep regulation. It also plays a role in reducing anxiety and promoting mental well-being, making it beneficial for overall mental health.
